The Eaton Rapids Greyhounds are proud to announce the hiring of Mr. Tim Merritt as the new varsity boys basketball coach!
Coach Merritt began coaching basketball in 2005 for the Central Michigan University Club Basketball program. He was an assistant until 2007 when he took the reins of both the men’s and women’s club basketball teams. In 2009, Coach Merritt was offered the position of Video Coordinator with the CMU Women’s basketball team where he was a part of a team that reached the MAC Tournament Championship. Coach Merritt then served as an assistant at Holt with the boys’ varsity basketball team for two years. Coach Merritt was then offered a head coaching position at Potterville where he served for two seasons as the varsity girls coach before returning to Holt. He has now found a home at Eaton Rapids with the Greyhound family.
From Mr. Merritt – Coaching Philosophy: As a coach, you have to develop a love for the game. More importantly coaches need to possess a love for developing student athletes and preparing them for life. I pride myself on using basketball as a medium to teach student athletes valuable life lessons while winning games in the process. Basketball is about more than X’s and O’s. It’s about making your community your family. It’s about getting out of the gym and into the world in a positive way. Without community members, there wouldn’t be an athletic program. Without an athletic program the community would have one less way to come together as a family to watch the success of the youth they have all had a hand in raising. My student athletes will learn that the goals of the team come before personal desires. Together we will succeed. We all want to get to the same destination; it is more beneficial to all travel down the same path to achieve this destination.
When you get the chance, please congratulate and welcome Coach Merritt!
