At the Williamston Hoopfest, the Eaton Rapids Varsity Girls Basketball team got off to a hot start vs one of the better teams in the state Wednesday night, the Michigan Center Cardinals. With an efficient offense, and a stout defense, the Greyhound roared out to a 18-5 lead after the 1st quarter. The Cardinals fought back however, and by halftime, the lead had been trimmed to just two, 27-25. A combination of foul trouble, good defense by Michigan Center, and exhaustion from playing a back to back hurt the Greyhounds in the 2nd half however, as they were outscored by 10 in the third quarter. Fighting as hard as they could, the tank was just a bit too empty to claw back, and ended up with a respectable 15 point loss to a final four team from a year ago that had graduated just one key player. Ari Sysum led the way for the Greyhound with 14 points and 7 rebounds, with Isabell Ausel adding 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks in limited play due to foul trouble. Rounding out the scoring for the Greyhounds were Peyton Benjamin with 5 points, Kyra Acker with 2 points, Shelby Warner with 2 points, and Serenity Horton with 2 points as well. Heading into the Christmas break, the Greyhounds are 3-3 (1-1 conference), but are starting to play some excellent basketball that we hope can continue for the rest of the season.
JV: Michigan center beat the JV Greyhounds 78-34.
