The Lady Greyhounds took down a tough opponent when the Spartans from Springport came to Eaton Rapids for the regular season finale. On senior night, the Greyhounds started a little slow, falling behind early 13-5 due to Springport’s tough pressure. However, as the Greyhounds have done before, they fought back and brought the game to a 6 point deficit at the end of the 1st, 9-15. In the 2nd quarter, Eaton Rapids took over with some tough defense which led to some easy layups on the other end. By halftime, the Greyhounds had managed to grab a 3 point lead. The 3rd quarter has been a bane in the Greyhounds side all year, but for the 2nd game in a row, they came out of the locker room and took control of the game. Outscoring the Spartans 13-6 in the frame, the Greyhounds seemed to take control of the game by the end of the 3rd, leading 41-31. In the 4th quarter though, the Spartans showed how good of a team they are, and chipped away at that lead, bringing the game to within 5, 43-38. However, some key steals, layups, and free throws were enough to seal the win and send the seniors out with a well deserved win. Ari Sysum led all scorers with 22 points to go with 11 rebounds and 5 steals. Isabell Ausel added 9 points with 11 rebounds. Peyton Benjamin had a great game with 8 points and 6 steals. Serenity Horton added 7 points, Kyra Acker put in 3, and Shelby Warner had 2. The Greyhounds finish the regular season on a 5 game winning streak, with an overall record of 12-8. They now take their skills into the district tournament, where they will face rival Charlotte on Wednesday, March 6, at Olivet High School.
JV score: Eaton Rapids 53, Springport 38.
