The Girls Varsity team traveled to Lansing Catholic Friday night and beat the host Cougars 54-44 to sweep the season series.
Needing a fast start, the Greyhounds got exactly that, jumping out to a 11-4 lead before the Cougars could chip away. After all was settled in the first 8 minutes, the Greyhounds led by 1, 13-12. In the 2nd quarter, Eaton Rapids took control. With some timely defensive pressure, the transition game allowed the Greyhounds to jump to a 12 point lead with a minute before half-time. However, they lost their focus and gave up 6 points in the final minute and allowed the Cougars to gain a little momentum going into the half with a score of 24-18.
In the 3rd quarter, the Greyhounds’ defensive pressure once again proved to be a difference. With some easy layups at the other end, they were able to gain a 10 point lead by the end of the 3rd, up 40-30. In the 4th, the lead extended a bit to 14, before a small run by Lansing Catholic cut the lead to 8. In the final 3 minutes, the Greyhounds ran off some clock and forced the Cougars to foul. Making enough free throws to end any chance of a comeback, the Greyhounds left the gym with a 10 point win!
Emily Cline led the charge with 16 points, followed with Kyra Acker and Shelby Warner each with 8. Loralei Berry, Peyton Benjamin, and Adi Sysum all added 6 a piece, and Serenity Horton added 4.
The Greyhounds next game is at home, against an Okemos team that has been playing fantastic as of late, on Tuesday, February 10. Come cheer on Eaton Rapids in what should be a close, tough game!
