The Eaton Rapids Greyhounds lost their first game of the season last Tuesday, losing to Jackson Northwest by 10, 37-47.
The game started well for the Greyhounds, who came out shooting well en route to a 16-16 first quarter tie. In the 2nd, both teams struggled to find points, with the visiting Greyhounds managing a mere 4 points to bring the half-time score to 22-20.
In the 3rd, Northwest found their range, hitting consecutive 3-pointers to extend that lead to 8 in quick fashion. While the Greyhounds did their best to hang around, by then end of the 3rd, the Mounties held a lead that seemed insurmountable, 37-24. In the 4th quarter, Northwest extended that lead to 16 at one point, leading to a Greyhound timeout. Following that timeout, Eaton Rapids chipped away at that lead, pulling to within 6 at on point (42-36), but great free throw shooting sealed the game for the host Mounties.
Leading the Greyhounds was Peyton Benjamin with 14 points, followed by Loralei Berry with 8. Also contributing were Emily Cline with 4, Serenity Horton with 4, Kyra Acker with 3, Adi Sysum with 3, and Shelby Warner with 1. Leading the way for the Mounties was Morgan Hanchett with 21.
The Greyhounds take their first loss of the season into their next game with rival Charlotte.
