The Eaton Rapids Lady Greyhounds beat another team of Bulldogs, this time from Ionia. Starting with a solid 1st quarter, the Greyhounds played stellar defense, limiting Ionia to just 3 first quarter points. Starting relatively slow themselves, they still managed 13 points in the quarter, gaining a 10 point lead after the 1st. From there, the game because a defensive slug-fest, with neither team able to put many points on the board. Holding the Bulldogs to just 2 points in the 2nd quarter, the Greyhounds manage to only put 6 themselves, giving Eaton Rapids a 19-5 lead at the halftime break. In the 3rd quarter, both teams continued their sloppy offensive play and solid defense. With a combined 3 points, 2 for Ionia and just one for Eaton Rapids, the 4th quarter started with the Greyhounds up by 13. The 4th quarter continued to have little action on the scoreboard, as both teams still struggled to find a groove. Eaton Rapids managed 6 points in the final period, and while Ionia was able to sink a few shots for 11 points, including a buzzer-beater at the end of the game, the Bulldogs still fell short. Ari Sysum led all scorers with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Isabell Ausel added 4 points, Kyra Acker put in 3 points, and Loralei Berry rounded out the scoring with 3 points. While the game was and ugly, the win still counts and give the Greyhounds their 3rd in a row. They next face the Owosso Trojans on Tuesday, February 26, on a night where we will be honoring our future Lady Greyhounds. Come support the girls, both present and future, at this exciting event!
JV score: Eaton Rapids 41, Ionia 37.
