The Lady Greyhounds played in their first overtime game this season, and while needing two, got the job done against a very physical Bulldog team from Mason. With the game ebbing back and forth, the Greyhounds maintained a 6 point lead at the half. However, the shooting touch went away in the 3rd quarter, scoring only 1 point and allowing the Bulldogs to take a 4 point lead into the 4th quarter. Mason kept that lead until about 3 minutes to go in regulation, when a few key defensive stops allowed the Greyhounds to knot it at 35 to force the first overtime. In that extra period, both teams traded baskets, and with 17 seconds left, Mason had a chance for a game-winning shot. A big block by senior Isabell Ausel swatted away that chance and forced the 2nd extra period. In that period, 2 quick baskets forced the Bulldogs into a “foul” mode, and with enough free throws, Eaton Rapids was able to seal the win. Leading the Greyhounds tonight were Ari Sysum with 16 points, along with 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Peyton Benjamin had some key baskets giving her 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Isabell Ausel chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Rounding out the scoring were Kyra Acker with 4, Megan Huisman with 2, and Serenity Horton with 2.
JV score: Mason 57, Eaton Rapids 56.
